From the time a small business owner begins to experience frustration with his IT infrastructure he also generally asks the question, “How do I fix this?” or “What’s the answer?”
He may have started out with a small office with one or two computers, pop email, a shared printer, and then started to grow. Before long he finds himself with 10 computers, a non-secure file sharing system, no central log in or storage system, questionable security and probably never has tried to restore a backup even if he knew the process. I would say a high percentage of the companies we first encounter fall into some variation of this condition.
It is usually at this point that a business owner says………enough! He knows the basic flaws within his IT system but what action does he take and how does he go about patching things up? Is this a simple fix? Can he take a band aid approach? Does he overhaul everything? Does he bring in outside help? If so who?
In the next few weeks we will look at some of the options and resources a small businessman has at his disposal to shore up his IT environment to a secure and current standard.
Stay tuned…
